How to see who’s stealing your Wi-Fi and block them

There are many reasons why the WiFi connection is slow on your smartphone, the limitation of the bandwidth, poor signal of the router or poor placement of the same, problems with the local network, etc. But sometimes there is another possible explanation: someone is hacking your WiFi network. This not only reduces your speed, you can also run the risk of the thief doing illegal things or keeping all your keys. Today we explain how to protect your router and how to block unwanted users.

Who uses the Wi-Fi network?

The first step is to find out who is using our Wi-Fi network. For this, we can enter the configuration of the router and check the connected devices and check it through our smartphone with the application Fing.
Once the application is installed and connected to the Wi-Fi network, open the application and click on the refresh icon at the top right to scan our Wi-Fi network.
Once the scan is complete, all devices connected to the network will be displayed. The application will give us the mark of each device, its local IP address and its MAC address (Media Access Control, which is something like the license plate number of the device).
With this list, we can recognize the router (usually, has a finished IP in one *. *. 1.1) and all our connected devices (computers, tablets, printers, hard disks or any gadget). If there is a device that we do not recognize, it may be the thief.

Block unknown devices

In the case that we have localized strange devices, we can limit the access to the router to prevent them from entering our WiFi network.
For this, we can enter the management panel of the router and configure MAC fliers. From the Internet browser, in the address bar enter the IP of the router. You will be prompted for the username and password of your router.

Once in the administration panel of the router, it searches the filters for MAC (depends on the model of a router but usually, they are in the section of security, WLAN or Wireless). Here you can enter the intruder’s MAC address and deny access.
You can also limit access only to your devices by filtering access only to the MAC addresses of your device, the bad thing is that it makes access to your visitors’ Wi-Fi difficult. This will block any strange invasion. Remember that if you choose this option no one will be able to connect to your WiFi.
